“If you've ever been to Western Australia you'll know that the local island paradise is Rottnest, a half-hour ferry ride from the capital city Perth. So named because early explorers saw rats - "Rat's Nest" eventually became Rottnest - that weren't actually rats, but a unique animal called a Quokka instead. It's a special place with no vehicular traffic, a totally relaxed feel and a perimeter full of great beaches and snorkelling spots.”

Day 1: Arrive Perth

On arrival at Perth Airport you will be transferred to your hotel (flights anytime, airfare not included). The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 2: Perth - Fremantle - Swan Valley

This morning tour the sights of Perth, passing the upmarket suburbs of Pepper Mint Grove and Dalkeith. See the Old Swan Brewery and the Royal Perth Yacht Club - once home to the Americas Cup. For panoramic views of the Swan River, the city and Darling Escarpment, you'll visit Kings Park and the Federation Walkway, where you can also wander among the treetops.

Visit historic Fremantle and see its docks, marinas and charming heritage sandstone buildings. Later, travel into the Swan Valley, set alongside the broad reaches of the Swan River. Visit Caversham Wildlife Park for a close up encounter with Australian animals including kangaroos, emus and wombats. Have your photo taken with a cuddly koala! Taste premium Swan Valley wines at Sandalford Winery then visit Margaret River Chocolate Factory and sample fine locally made chocolates.

Day 3: Rottnest Island

A full day to enjoy the sub-tropical island of Rottnest. Cruise down the Swan River to Fremantle then board the high-speed ferry for the short transfer to the island. Explore the secluded beaches and isolated sandy bays. You're sure to encounter a Quokka! Enjoy a delicious lunch followed by a guided tour of the island. Later, there is time at leisure before re-boarding your ferry for your return to Perth.
