Day 1 - Hobart to Port Arthur

We begin with a short drive to the historic village of Richmond. Here we can view some great Tassie history before heading south to the Tasman Peninsula. We stop at the Eaglehawk Neck lookout for the spectacular view. This afternoon we explore the Port Arthur Historic Site and its famous ruins and learn of life as a convict in a place once referred to as “hell on earth”. Tonight you get the chance to do the guided Ghost Tour in and around the ruins - if you are game!

Day 2 - Port Arthur to Coles Bay

First up this morning we stretch our legs and experiencing a magnificent coastal walk or for those who prefer to use this time can take the option (own expense)of joining Rob Pennicott's Tasman Island Cruise and explore this extraordinary coastline from the waters edge. You will see some amazing sea cliffs and caves and join in the search for the abundant sea and coastal wildlife. After some lunch we head north along the east coast passing through Orford and Swansea. We stop at Kate's Berry Farm for a break and chance to sample her famous produce or ice creams. We arrive at Cole's bay on the edge of Great Oyster Bay and gateway to Freycinet National Park.

Day 3 - Coles Bay to St Helens

This morning is spent exploring Freycinet National Park. Try the climb to the summit of Mt Amos or join a guided walk to Wineglass Bay. A short drive this afternoon takes us further north passing the township of Bicheno and onto the coastal region known as the Bay of Fires. Here we can walk on the pristine white beaches and orange lichen covered rocks. This area is rich in natural beauty and also has a strong history with the Tasmanian Aboriginal people.

Day 4 - St Helens to Cradle Mountain

Leaving the coast we head inland through forest and farmland to the city of Launceston, Australia's third oldest city. Situated at the junction of the South Esk, North Esk and Tamar Rivers, we will take time out here for some lunch and also a visit to the Cataract Gorge.
Our late afternoon drive takes us past the Great Western Tiers and the townships of Deloraine and Mole Creek then ascending into the mountains of the Cradle Mountain National Park.

Day 5 - Cradle Mountain to Strahan

The best part of the day is ours to explore this magnificent World Heritage Area of Cradle Mountain. Stroll around Dove Lake or hike to Marion's Lookout. Explore a variety of short walks amongst some ancient pines and some unique wildlife. This area is truly one of the highlights of Tasmania. Mid afternoon we venture further into the Wild West as we make our journey to the small township   Strahan on the edge of Macquarie Harbour

Day 6 - Strahan to Lake St Clair

Today you are free to enjoy Strahan and its wild environs. There are many activities available today (at own expense) for you to participate such as a Gordon River Cruise, Scenic sea plane or helicopter flights, Henty Dune Quad bikes, Wild Rivers Jet Boating or hire a kayak and explore some of the harbour yourself. This wild part of the world experiences some of the freshest air on the planet. Later this afternoon we will travel inland past the moonscape hills of Queenstown and stopping to touch the wilderness at the infamous Franklin River. Climbing into the mountains again we make our overnight stop at Lake St Clair.

Day 7 - Lake St Clair to Hobart

This morning we wake beside Australia's deepest freshwater lake. Take a stroll along the shoreline tracks or perhaps sit in silence to spot a platypus or wild animals. The Derwent River begins its course here in the mountains and we will meet with her a few times today as we both journey towards Hobart. We take some time to experience the Mt Field National Park with its tranquil Russell Falls and tall trees within an easy walk. Nearby we visit a wildlife sanctuary to see up close the Tasmanian devil. From here it's a short drive through the last of the Derwent Valley and the township of New Norfolk before we reach our tours end at Hobart.
