Ningaloo Reef on the Coral Coast is one of Western Australia's natural treasures - alive with an abundance of marine life, turquoise waters and dazzling white beaches set against a backdrop of rugged limestone ranges. Three Islands Marine Charters specialises in whale shark snorkel adventures on the reef between April and July. Although the tour focus is on whale sharks, an amazing variety of reef life such as manta rays, turtles, dolphins, whales and even dugongs may be sighted during the cruise.
Apart from the thrill of swimming with the world's largest fish , the tour raises awareness of the worldwide need to protect this threatened species. The Three Islands team is dedicated to ensuring this unique wildlife encounter is extremely enjoyable and totally memorable.
Join us as we take you on the experience of a lifetime snorkelling alongside the largest fish in the sea on our fantastic full day adventure on Ningaloo Reef on the outback coast of Western Australia. The friendly, professional Marine team is committed to excellence in service, safety and satisfaction to give you the ultimate whale shark and reef snorkelling experience.
Ningaloo Reef is one of the few easily accessible places where these gentle spotted giants regularly appear in large numbers close to shore at predictable times of the year. Each year the whale sharks are drawn to Ningaloo Reef to feed following the mass coral spawn which occurs in March and April. The filter feeding whale sharks stay in the reef area to feed on minute organisms from April to July, swimming close to the surface, giving you the opportunity to experience a unique wildlife interaction.
Your Whale Shark Snorkelling Adventure begins when we pick you up from your accommodation from 7.30am to be transported by courtesy bus to Tantabiddi where you will board the spacious 17 metre vessel, 'Drawcard'. During the 45 minute trip through the Cape Range National Park, keep an eye out for some of the local fauna such as kangaroos, emus, eagles and goannas.
Once on board our vessel we start cruising to the first snorkelling destination, you will be briefed on the day's activities, safety procedure and protocol of swimming with the whale sharks. You will also be fitted with your snorkelling gear, which you can test at our first snorkel site where you can see beautiful corals, a myriad of tropical fish including Clown Fish, Clark's Anemones, Angel Fish, Parrot Fish, Spangled Emperor, Groper and many more. A turtle may swim past or even a dugong and there's usually a ray resting on the sand. Check out our gallery for pictures.
We then cruise to the outer reef to start the search for the whale sharks. This process is made easier by the use of spotter planes which radio whale shark positions to us so we can easily locate them. Our safety zodiac is always on hand if required by any passengers. The remainder of our day is taken up locating and snorkelling with whale sharks, cruising the reef looking for turtles, dolphins, dugongs, manta rays and other creatures of the turquoise waters, as well as discovering the coral wonders abundant with diverse marine life. Our marine calendar shows you which marine life can be seen at different times of the year
A delicious buffet lunch, refreshments and morning and afternoon teas are also included for your enjoyment. The day's schedule can vary depending on when our friends of the deep decide they would like to swim with us. Our Marine Team has an excellent record of interaction with whale sharks and we are very proud of our high level of customer satisfaction.
